South Padre Island is a barrier island separating the Gulf of Mexico from the Laguna Madre. The beach and dune system on the Island are integral parts of a dynamic environment that is controlled by the wind, waves, and tides.

South Padre Island is committed to preserving and restoring the local beaches to maintain our quality of life and sustain the local tourism-based economy.

  • Maintaining 5 miles of linear beachfront and 170 acres of recreational beach
  • Construction and improvement projects (see projects above)
  • Administering permits for any beach-side construction (see permit section above)
  • Maintaining ~400 trash barrels throughout the island
  • Mowing/trimming beach accesses and bay ends

And any other improvements needed to keep a healthy and clean beach!

Beach Rules & Regulations

In Compliance with the City of South Padre Island Code of Ordinances 

  • Absolutely NO motor vehicles on city beaches
  • Operation of electric bicycles is prohibited on the beach
  • Please do not litter
  • All glass is prohibited on the beach
  • Commercial activity or solicitation on the beach is prohibited
  • Overnight camping is prohibited
  • Leash and clean up after your pets

Leave with a tan… Not with a ticket!
