Weedy LotsThe Environmental Health Services Department conducted a survey for weedy lots for all lots west of Padre Boulevard and 35 letters were sent to the property owners. The owners will have 10 days to comply.
Mosquito ControlDue to recent reports about West Nile Virus in Dallas, the Environmental Health Services Department will begin to perform surveillance and trapping of mosquitoes. They will send those trapped mosquitoes to the Department of State Health Services in Austin for identification and testing. The most current information on West Nile Virus from the Texas Department of State Health Services can be found at
www.TxWestNile.org.
Palm Tree TrimmingThe contractor has trimmed all of the palm trees at the entrance and Padre Boulevard medians. He is currently trimming the palm trees at the intersections of Padre Boulevard. The City will finish trimming the remainder of the City owned palm trees in October once the 2012-2013 budget is approved.
MaintenanceThe Public Works crews painted the City Logo sign at the entrance median. They are also accepting bids from area contractors to restripe Laguna Boulevard, East and West Amberjack, E. Morningside and E. Sunset.
The WAVERidership for the month of July is 61,935, which is up by 6,633 riders from July of 2011. The monthly total hours The WAVE buses operated for July is 1,731 for total travel miles of 29,549.

Recycling
Recyclable items can be taken to Island Baptist Church every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
Items that can be recycled are:
- Newspaper
- Cardboard
- Office Paper
- Aluminum
- Tin
- Plastic
To offer a better recycling service please:
- Compact, crush or break down plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, aluminum cans or any other items that may be reduced in size. This helps us use the most amount of space in the bins.
- Remove any food, liquid, metal fasteners, adhesive materials or other items that may contaminate the whole load.
Toastmasters Wanted
The Islanders Toastmasters International Club is now open to the public and invites all to participate and develop valuable communication and leadership skills. "The Islanders" meet every Thursday at 12:00pm at the City Hall Board Room. Animal ControlLost or found an animal on the Island? The South Padre Island's Animal Control is working together with the Friends of Animals Rescue Group. Their foster based recovery center helps to reunite lost and found pets with their families. Friends of Animal Rescue will make every effort to reunite lost animals with their families. Animals that are not reunited will be vetted by Friends of Animal Rescue and placed with new families. Lost or found a pet please call (956) 761-PETS.

This great dog was found Friday, August 17 on East Esperanza. He has a red collar on and knows commands. If you have any information regarding who he belongs to please cal Friends of Animal Rescue at (956) 772-1171.
