Friends of Animal Rescue is pleased to announce the passing of their State of Texas Quarantine inspection on Tuesday, October 2.The SPI Recovery Center will now be able to handle quarantine cases as well lost or stray animals. The SPI Recovery Center has been caring for lost and homeless South Padre Island animals since October of 2011 when they passed their State of Texas inspection to be a licensed animal shelter. The City of South Padre Island has awarded the Friends of Animal Rescue the contract for care of Island Animals for 2012-2013.
The SPI Recovery Center,managed by Friends of Animal
Rescue,has an 82% ratio of reuniting lost animals with their
owners. The animals that are not reunited with their owners are placed
with loving new families. Friends of Animal
Rescue has neutered over 280 animals this year. The group is
currently working on a low income spay/neuter program. They have also
worked to lower the number of cats on the Island by spaying/neutering and
socializing kittens that were adopted out.
Friends of Animal Rescue has a 24 hour hotline for Island

The SPI Recovery Center is located at 4908 Padre Blvd and is open to the public
daily from 10-4.
